Introducing sticks and stones flora

Written By Meghan Shaw

New year, new me. I’ve been hearing this phrase a lot. And while it doesn’t completely describe our story, I’m excited to share that we have a new name, a new look, and a new focus.

I’d like to introduce you to Sticks and Stones Flora; an event floral design company.

The bones of who we are and how we provide our services stay the same. But now, our focus is fully on event flower design, which is a passion of mine that’s been building for some time, was once buried and ignored, and has since exploded to be a part of my journey on this earth.

The story of how we arrived here is not exactly linear, but I don’t think that matters. I’ve learned that life isn’t linear. I will not bore you with the twists and turns of my journey, but the floral design itch started circa 2010, which landed me at a florist shop volunteering to sweep floors. Fast forward to December 2021, I was approached by a friend to be her wedding florist and the rest is history. I am forever grateful to the Deeken family for that first big opportunity.

During the experience of planning and creating the flowers for that wedding, I fell in love. After the wedding, the floral work requests continued to come in via word of mouth. We’ve had the pleasure of getting creative with flowers for so many awesome brides and grooms, while staying committed to pushing the boundaries for design and using sustainable floristry practices. We do our best to source locally first and strive to create designs that feel like art.

And so, while I’ve shared bits about our coming changes over social media, it feels good to officially announce our new name and look, and some more context around the changes.

I want to extend a major thank you to all of my family, friends and customers who have been supporting my business from the beginning. I have loved being a part of your special occasions and watching your children grow at all of their special parties year after year. It’s been a joy. I hope you will continue to follow our journey as Sticks and Stones Flora and call on us for your event flower needs.

On a personal note, I have a lot of favorite songs. Periods of time are often marked by songs or albums. This Must be the Place by The Talking Heads is high in the rank and I’d say it best describes how I feel about this new direction. While the lyrics in the song don’t exactly have a linear narrative, to me, it tells a love story about a person who feels they are in the right place, feeling grounded and meaningfully flowing through time. I’ve been hard at work listening to life’s cues. Being with flowers, visiting flower farms, creating arrangements, and pushing the boundaries for designs, just feels like ‘the place’. This does not come without challenges nor did it happen overnight, but I do believe it was meant to be.

Following this musical tangent, I’d like to close by saying thank you again for your support and love! I look forward to sharing more here on the blog over time and using flowers as a medium to create beautiful spaces.
