Four Moments for Flowers at Your Wedding Ceremony

There are tried and true moments during a wedding where flowers make a big impact through the day, but no hard and fast rules. When it comes to the ceremony, which is the most important part, here’s a highlight reel of the top four ways we love to use flowers during the ceremony:
  1. The First Guest Touch Point
With the introduction of calligraphy artists and simple graphic design accessibility through apps like Canva, welcome signs at weddings are here to stay. At these signs, it’s common that we will include flower details. Sometimes the scale of the design is large, sometimes it’s small. But this is an excellent place to make a big splash no matter your budget.
  2. You + Your Inner Circle
The most common question I get here from couples is, “What do people do?” when it comes to personal flowers for weddings. Start with your wedding party bouquets, boutonnieres, flower girl details and cuffs. If there is someone who is not in your wedding party, but they are important to you, consider honoring them with a boutonniere or cuff. These are the flowers that will not only stand out during your ceremony, but make the people who are important to you feel a little extra love, which is what it’s all about. And if you are so bold, consider a full flower lapel for suit lovers.
  3. The Aisle Experience
Whether you are a low key couple or not, the aisle is a dramatic entrance. It’s a long walk, with a lot of eyeballs, and an excellent area to focus on for flowers. Flower arrangements can start top of the aisle to make an impact just as guests enter to take a seat. If you want to go further, you can create arrangements along the inside path, where you will walk. These flowers can easily be transitioned to the reception for max use as long as you have a planned cocktail hour.
  4. The Ceremony Scene
Options for the ceremony flowers can scale from a pair of statement arrangements, to meadow style ground arrangements encompassing the couple, to full archways of florals and greens. What you choose depends on your style and budget, but all of them present ways that add beauty to the space where you plan to say your vows.
As you plan for your wedding day, use this baseline for ceremony moments to consider what is important to you as a couple and where you’d like to create floral impact.
